Home security cameras are designed for specific uses, which is why you can’t buy just any type and expect it to work well for your intended use. First, decide on your purpose for buying the camera and where you intend to put it.
If you want an outdoor camera to record potential intruders near your home, buy a weather proof model that can be easily seen by potential intruders as they approach your house. The main function of the camera here is to prevent burglaries by scaring potential intruders. Provide a secure housing against vandals for the camera.
Make sure you get clear videos from your camera by buying a model with a CCD (charge coupled device) that is 1/3” or bigger. A blurred image would be useless in identifying the would-be intruder. Check also if the camera lens would cover the intended area for surveillance.
Some surveillance cameras are small enough to be hidden from view. This is recommended if the camera will be used to monitor your babysitter or similar situations where you don’t them you know they are being watched.
